Growing trees and minds

Local Appin School involvement

We wish to involve local schools to plant trees and help create the Diamond Jubilee Wood, as a part of their environmental education.

Tree Planting gets children involved and helps create a wonderful learning resource, so we want to encourage schools to make the most of this opportunity to plant trees. This helps us to create additional woodland habitat, increases biodiversity and, most importantly, provides children with an excellent learning opportunity. Let them plant trees, watch them grow and see how local wildlife increases.

Biodiversity, the variety of life on Earth, is essential to sustaining the networks of living things that provide us all with health, food, fuel and the vital elements that are a part of our lives.

People have always caused this biodiversity to be lost, but as the population of planet earth increases, so this destruction of habitat is degraded at a greatly accelerated rate. These losses are irreversible, impoverishing us all. But we can fight to reverse this damage and our children are a vital part of this battle.

We plan to ensure that our planting days are memorable learning opportunities. These events give everyone the opportunity to get their hands dirty; teachers and children.
